AISME

AI is deemed a key enabling technology of Industry 5.0 to support workers in manufacturing operations. Benefits are not only economic but also environmental and societal if AI solutions are transparent and trustworthy. Due to several barriers to AI adoption such as lack of AI benefits awareness, shortage of digital skills, high costs for internalizing AI, and little evidence/visibility on the returns on investment, SMEs lag. To overcome these barriers, training is crucial. Decision-makers have to train to rethink their processes. Operators need to exercise their judgment to guide and interpret algorithms and learn new ways of working with the technology. (OECD, 2021).

AISME project aims at training managers, engineers, and technicians, working in or for SMEs, in key subjects to guide manufacturing SMEs to implement sustainable AI solutions: Essentials of AI, Explainability in AI systems, Safety & Reliability, and Maintainability.

Four learning paths will start from industrial SME use cases, be developed from existing, possibly new, AI-related material, and adapted with innovative pedagogical content. The main objectives are to raise awareness of SME managers and workers about the consequences of AI in manufacturing applications, the conditions to strengthen and run in the long term their digital transformation, and to train SME managers, engineers, and technicians through blended learning. All of that will lead SMEs to autonomy in their AI projects.
